Wipers Again!

My wipers have an intermitent fault which starts with them inching across the windscreen and then stopping and not working for a period of time. Come back the next day and they work again! Have had a new motor (under guarantee) and have had the linkages etc stripped down, checked, greased and put back together. It still does it a couple of times a week. Have read through the extensive info on this fault and still stuck! Any ideas anyone before i have to bite the bullet and take it to a main dealer? Its a 1999 TDi.

Sounds like the thermal fuse is tripping or whatever its called ?, would suggest its still tight somewhere as it does the same symptoms as a seized linkage like I had. Can you move the arms without the motor attached ?, that might point to whats causing the unit to trip out ?.

Check your wiper motor is not sitting in a puddle of water. Spray the whole motor with WD40 if it is, then clear your scuttle drains.

Thanks guys will try those tomorrow! Went out in it before and they are just moving very slowly now.

Are you confident that the linkage was lubricated properly ? The problem is not usually with the pivot points (perhaps the obvious parts to lubricate) but inside the spindle housing directly below the wiper arm retaining bolt.

Tried lubrication today but thats another story! No, but it did help a bit so am going to try new linkages and ford have agreed to change motor on warranty( wonders will never cease!) Just out of interest before coming on this site my wife took it to ford and they quoted
